| Buying a car may be the biggest investment
of your trip. Minimum buying price and maximum selling price is your
aim. All Car Market vehicles are privately owned by the people selling
them, nearly all are travellers. Here are a few helpful tips.
1) Buy a car registered in the State that you
will sell it in. You will find it easier to sell. This does not
apply if you are selling back in our Car Market, it can be registered
in any State of Austrlia.
2) Buy a car with at least three months registration
left after you are going to sell it and make sure it is registered
in a State that you will be travelling through, so that you can
arrange new, or transfer of registration. Not all States transfer
registrations by mail.
3) In States where registration is cheap, it helps
to pay for 6/12 months registration, if there is less than 3 months
left when you go to sell. We give free advice on which States are
the cheapest and easiest to do this.
4) The cheapest places to buy cars are (in order)
:- Auctions, The King Cross Car Market, privately through newspapers,
and licensed car dealers. Auctions do not allow you to test drive
the cars before buying them. Buying at the Kings Cross Car Market
and through newspapers allows you to meet the previous owner, test
drive the cars and/or take them for a mechanical inspection. Dealers
charge the most and ONLY SOME give you a written warranty or a written
buy back agreement.
5) DO NOT buy a car from unlicensed dealers who
are hanging around hotels, hostels or on the streets of Kings Cross,
offering cars for sale. They are breaking the law and in many cases,
as previous travellers have found, when you get back you will not
find them. You will also have trouble with the registration as the
unlicensed dealers do not put their names on the registration papers.
Only buy privately from a person who can prove by a photographic
licence or passport that they own the car. All Kings Cross Car Market
cars are owned by the seller.
6) WARNING There are now a number of people, advertising in hostels, offering cheaper mechanical inspections of vehicles for sale. Most of these people are not qualified mechanics, and do the inspections on the street. Make sure you see that the person you use to do any mechanical check for you is a licensed mechanic with a licensed workshop. Ask to see their Licence to carry out Mechanical work. Most of these guys are in fact unlicensed car dealers selling their own cars or cars for a car dealer.
7) Kings Cross Car Market has the biggest range
of Interstate cars, Wagons and Campervans in Australia, many with
camping gear (this may save you up to $500), owned by travellers
like you who speak your language and will give you helpful information
that will help you on your trip.
8) Each State has different rules for transfer,
registration and insurances. Kings Cross Car Market has all the
transfer and registration forms for all the States in Australia.
We also have the phone numbers to check that the car you are buying
is not stolen, has had the registration cancelled for unpaid fines
or has money owing on it. Have a credit card ready if you want a
certificate of proof, which costs around $12.
9) We do not charge commission to sell cars, we
make money from parking fees of under $9 a day or $60 a week from
sellers. On average Kings Cross Car Market has the cheapest and
best value for money cars in Australia. Ask us for some free advice
and you may be one of the many buyers who will make a profit from
buying a car at the Kings Cross Car Market.
