KINGS CROSS CAR MARKET - INSURANCE INFORMATION   (FREECALL 1800 808 188):
There are three types of motor vehicle insurance available in Australia.

Third Party PERSONAL Insurance (Green Slip for injuries to people)

Third Party PROPERTY Insurance (for damage to other people's property)

Comprehensive Insurance (for damage to your and other people's property)

As an overseas visitor and non-resident of Australia you will find that you will not be able to get the Comprehensive Insurance without telling lies. You will only be able to get Third Party insurances.

The reason you will find it difficult to get insurance is that most overseas visitors have no experience with driving on the left side of the road.

In all Insurance papers you will find the words "DUTY OF DISCLOSURE". This means that you must tell the Insurance Company BEFORE buying their insurance, things about you; That you live overseas, you have no experience driving on the other side of the road, or you have had traffic fines. These and other things are facts that the Insurance Company should know and you should tell them before buying their insurance. If you do not tell them things that they should know then if you have an accident, you may not get paid, you may have to pay a higher excess, or they may just return your money and not pay the insurance claim.

THIRD PARTY PERSONAL INSURANCE (GREEN SLIP INSURANCE)

If the vehicle that you are driving or buying is legally registered in any State of Australia, then it is covered by Third Party PERSONAL insurance. This means that if you have an accident every person suffering personal injury (except the driver of the vehicle at fault) is covered by the Third Party Personal Insurance. In some States you can pay for the Registration and Insurance in the same office. In some States you have to pay for the Registration and Insurance at two separate offices. Every vehicle must have this Third Party Personal Isurance.

THIRD PARTY PROPERTY INSURANCE

If the vehicle that you own, or are driving is involved in an accident which causes damage to other people's property such as their car, house or fence, then you have to personally pay for the damage unless you take out Third Party PROPERTY insurance. Third Party Property Insurance will pay for all damages except your own car. The Kings Cross Car Market is the only place in Australia where you can buy Third Party Property Insurance, from 3 months ($210) to 12 months ($375) without an excess. That is without paying the first $1000 for each claim. Some insurance companies make you pay up to $1500 towards each claim. Our insurance is available 7 days, 24 hours, by fax from anywhere in Australia. You do not have to buy the vehicle from us.

The Insurance that you buy from the Kings Cross Car Market has been designed only for Overseas travellers so you do not have to tell lies to get it. Even if you go to one of the biggest insurers in Australia, the NRMA, they will not sell you insurance but tell you to go to the Kings Cross Car Market. The NRMA which is the National Road Recovery System in Australia, will give you roadside assistance if you break down but they will not sell insurance to non-Australian residents. From the NRMA book No. P156501 published 5/97 titled INTERNATIONAL TOURISTS CAR BUYING ADVICE, PAGE 8 and we quote "NRMA DOES NOT OFFER ANY INSURANCE COVER TO ANYONE WHO IS A NON-RESIDENT. (THE KINGS CROSS CAR MARKET, PHONE (02) 93585000, MAY BE ABLE TO HELP YOU. EG, 3 MONTHS COVER FOR THIRD PARTY PROPERTY $180" (Now $210 due to GST and rise in costs.) In the same book, the NRMA lists Kings Cross Car Market as being one of the best places to buy a car.

Third Party Property Insurance should be included as a cost in buying a car and be part of your budget as should services and tyres.
