1) The car should be registered in the State that
you intend to sell it. For instance,
if you are selling in Cairns, try to buy a car that is registered
in Queensland. It will be easier to sell as you can sell it to anyone
who lives in Cairns. Australian residents must own a car that is
registered in the State that they live in.
2) Sell the car with at least 3 months registration
left for the next buyer. Make sure that the registration / ownership
papers are in your name. You may find it difficult to sell it if
the papers are in the name of the previous owners. Would you buy
a car from a person who could not prove that they were the legal
owner?
3) Prepare the car for sale as you would have
liked it prepared when you bought it;
Clean the inside and outside of the vehicle, Make
it smell nice inside, Fix the obvious things that are broken, Clean
all the camping gear that goes with the car.
ALL BUYERS WANT A CLEAN AND NICELY PRESENTED VEHICLE.
4) Get a Safety Inspection Report / Roadworty
Certificate / MOT / Pink Slip less than one week before you go to
sell it. This will show what repairs if any are required. Most people
will want a mechanic to look at the car. If you have a safety inspection
report you will find it quicker and easier to sell.
5) If repairs are required and they are
not going to cost too much, GET THEM DONE, so that the buyer can
only argue about the value of the car and not the cost of repairs
as well. The buyer will take the cost of the repairs off the price
anyway, so you will pay for the repairs in the end.
